To be President at any organization, one needs more than just experience. There has to be integrity, tremendous leadership skills, and an overall love for the game. Nick Simone is the President of QFS. Let’s for now put aside his over 25 years of business experience and the numerous executive positions he has held. We want to introduce to you Nick, the real Nick, the man beneath the suit. Nick Simone is a visionary, with a drive and dedication to achieve that vision. He is compassionate, optimistic and never stops motivating the entire team to be the best at what they do.
Prior to becoming President at QFS, Nick was President at Walton Capital Management, where he oversaw Walton’s expansion into the Toronto and Eastern Markets. As President of QFS, Nick endeavors to build a similar success environment, continuing and furthering the ongoing dedication to the advisors we work with and the expansion of QFS as an organization.
Experience, integrity, leadership, knowledge, all packaged together and gift wrapped with a suit and tie. What more can we ask for? Yes, one more thing about Nick: he is not a believer in the word ‘stress’, he refers to it as ‘life’. Love life and there will be no stress. Now, you tell us what kind of person he is.
Perry hasn’t always been this insurance maverick you see in front of you today. As a matter of fact, Perry actually started out in the medical field as a medical rep. But as the universe would have it, Perry transitioned into the insurance industry with Sunlife Financial in 1992, where he quickly rose to the top earning rookie of the year the following year. After gaining significant experience, Perry left Sunlife to start what would become the first recognized AGA of Industrial Alliance Insurance, Millennium Financial Services Inc (MFSI). In 1999, MFSI was given an MGA contract by Industrial Alliance. Serving as President, Perry oversaw the recruitment and training of over 250 brokers. MFSI was acquired by Performins, which was later acquired by QFS, resulting in Perry’s current position as VP of Sales and Training. Now, imagine how different this world would have been if Perry had stuck with the medical field?
They do not come nicer than Joseph Trozzo. Professionally, Joe has over 20 years of business experience within the insurance industry, most recently in a Regional Director role with RBC Insurance where he managed a team of wholesalers. He is extremely knowledgeable with living benefits, and is a firm believer that a positive mental attitude is critical to achieving success. Joe believes in helping advisors to become the best they can be by providing them with knowledge, know-how and inspiring them to action. Joe carries this exact same passion and enthusiasm into his daily life. When not making a difference in the lives of advisors, he is making a difference in the community and in lives around him. Joe is a volunteer couch for a special needs hockey team, as well as a board member for special needs children who have autism. On his spare time, you can find Joe coordinating fundraising events, enjoying hockey, and spending quality time with his beautiful family. Joe is known around the office to say ‘you will become what you think’. And we think the world of you Joe!
Kevin is the CEO of QFS. Now this being a bio, we should tell you things such as: when Kevin started out in the industry (1982), how many awards he’s won (many), and how many lives he’s changed (even more than awards). But we feel you should get to know Kevin from a different angle.
He is: a dog person, a watch collector, a mind-changer, a game changer, a good listener, a bad pretender, a vision invision-er, a wine taster, an art enthusiast, a latte drinker, a story teller, a business owner, a business lover.
Kevin Cott is a person who stumbled upon an industry sometime ago and who started a company now ranked as one of Canada’s fastest growing MGAs simply because of the passion that he gained for that industry.
Kevin founded Qualified Financial Services (QFS) in January, 1997 with just two employees, besides himself. Since then QFS has become a leader in the industry. In 2001, through Kevin's vision, QFS was the first firm in Canada to introduce an on-line back office system for its staff and advisors, now known as InSite. In 2003, Kevin singlehandedly brought the LEAP system to Canada, and has been responsible for introducing many other firsts to the industry. Kevin continues to be recognized as a leading edge MGA amongst his peers, and QFS continues to enjoy tremendous growth under his leadership.
As founder and CEO Kevin has brokered six major acquisitions between 2005 and 2014, making QFS one of the fastest growing MGAs in Canada. QFS is ranked in the top 6 of MGAs in Canada, and now has 9 offices across 6 provinces serviced by 50+ employees.
DIRECTOR OF WEALTH
Scott Edgington to Director of Wealth here at QFS. Scott comes to QFS after successful careers at some of Canada’s leading insurance companies. Previously, Scott was Senior Sales Consultant, Wealth at RBC Insurance and Regional Vice President, Sales, Retirement and Investment Products at Industrial Alliance. His experience also includes actuarial science, segregated fund product development and president of a national financial planning firm.
Henriette is one of those women who cannot be somewhere without wanting to get to know everyone. She has a genuine love for connections, meaningful interactions and a unique ability to inspire people. She is a mother to two young boys, an outdoorsy gal, and loves the small things in life. Her softness is matched only by her strength and passion.
Henriette came to QFS with over a decade of experience in the industry both as an MGA principle and as an advisor. ‘QFS and I share the same core values, integrity, passion, and commitment to the industry professionals. I am proud to be part of QFS.’ Says Henriette

Jeff could be described as a veteran in the industry, boasting over 17 years of experience, in varying capacities. He worked with two Million Dollar Round Table Life Insurance specialists, as well as with one of Canada’s largest MGA’s as a Life Insurance Specialist himself. During his tenure as a life specialist, Jeff assisted brokers with life insurance issues, illustrations and presentations. Jeff also spent some time as an independent advisor in a P&C firm, supporting home and auto clients with insurance and investment solutions, all the while maintaining his own client base. Prior to joining the Business Development Team here at QFS, Jeff spent 7 years working with the late Dr. Ian Wexler, with a specialized focus on Living Benefits.
The only thing David Cooke enjoys more than selling insurance is helping other insurance advisors build their businesses. In the financial industry since 2001, David has experienced the many highs and endured the challenging lows only this industry can deliver to a sales professional. Having his own financial practice, David innately understands the challenges and opportunities for advisors. As a business development specialist for QFS, David brings together technical knowledge, sales training, and personal performance insights to advisors as they compete in an ever-changing marketplace. Enthusiasm that comes only from a deep passion for insurance and sales success, David is a key business building resource for agents either new to the field, or experienced advisors yearning to optimize business to their individual potential.
Gary started in the industry in 1985 with a little company called London Life Financial. After climbing the ranks, Gary headed his own AGA before completing his CHS in 2012. Prior to joining QFS, Gary was a wholesaler with the Edge Benefits for about 2 years. In his spare time, if he has any, you can find Gary spending quality time with his wife and 5 children. That’s if he’s not busy challenging someone on the greens, tennis courts or floor mat. Yes, we said floor mat. Yes, Gary does Tae Kwan Do.
Ken’s passions are as follows: his family, his friends, his business, in this order. Now, don’t start thinking because he placed his business last, that Ken doesn’t care about business. In business, you can’t get more qualified than Ken. Ken boasts an impressive 35+ continuous years as a member of Advocis. He is a life and qualifying member of the MDRT (million dollar round table), with many court of the table, and 3 top of the table qualifications. Being president of one organization is aspiring and impressive. Ken holds the title of past president for four organizations, Advocis in NB, Kiwanis, Key Industries, and Rotary. Ken has had his CLU for over 35 years, is a member of CALU, and holds his CFP and ChFC. Now, imagine what he does for his family and friends, given his business only came in third! Ken’s hobbies include his grand children, cottage life, boating, travel, reading and golf, in no particular order. But we’re willing to bet his grandchildren still is number one.
Alex lives in a rural area on a small hobby farm with his wife, Lisa and three children, Caleb, Annie and Gabriel. He describes himself as an outdoor enthusiast, who enjoys the freedom and the flexibility of the insurance industry. Alex’s start into this industry came organically, when about 7 years ago, he called a large insurer to inquire about life insurance for his family. After some convincing from the sales manager and support from home, Alex decided to take the chance and make the switch from his then ‘sure thing’ into the insurance world. And we couldn’t be happier to report that he has not looked back since!
Ken’s mantra can best be summed up as keep growing, be better, never stop. He channels his enthusiasm and energy into a powerful driving force that propels him towards being the best at whatever he is doing. Ken loves QFS because he believes the financial advisors he works with have a unique opportunity to help ordinary people achieve extra-ordinary dreams. He will find the best solution, no matter how simple or complex the case is, and he is dependable. On top of being dependable, you will find that Ken cares, a lot. He approaches his advisor’s practice with a great level of care, and enjoys seeing advisors grow and achieve the practice of their dreams. A word of advice, don’t talk to Ken about the stock market, you may never get out of that conversation because he is a markets junkie. Don’t talk to ken about insurance, he will convince you that it is the best investment you could ever make. Definitely do not talk to Ken about the Toronto Maple Leafs, because he bleeds blue.

That’s right, QFS conferences happen all over the world, from Greece, to Prague, to the South Caribbean. Occupation: financial advisor/globe-trotter. And we're damn proud of it!

At the beginning of every year, QFS throws a lavish dinner called "The President's Dinner". This is where we acknowledge, toast, and honour all that was accomplished by you, the advisors, in the previous year. A lot can happen within a year, a life starts, a life ends, love found, love lost. Whatever the coming year may have in store, we find it is always a little brighter if started with a celebration.
Every decision we make is made with the advisor in mind. We do not blindly follow what the industry is doing. Every effort to consider the impact on the advisor and our relationship with the advisor is made before we proceed with any decision because we care.
